Track & Field Earns 12 All-America Honors

Earning first-team honors are junior Donn Cabral in both the 5,000 and the steeplechase and senior Ashley Higginson in the steeplechase.
Cabral is the national runner up in the steeplechase with a PR and Princeton record time of 8:35.60. He was a double All-America last year in both events as well. The following day he finished eighth in the 5000 with another PR at 13:40.62. Higginson finished sixth in the steeplechase at 10:03.15. This is her third All-America honor earning one in the steeplechase last year and in the indoor 3k this past March.
The men's program had seven student-athletes earned second-team All-America honors. Senior Mark Amirault placed 12th in the 5k at 13:54.51. Sophomore Russell Dinkins, senior Mike Eddy, junior Austin Hollimon and freshman Tom Hopkins are all second-team honoree as members of the 4x400 relay that finished 12th at 3:06.94. Senior Craig Pearce earned the honor in the hammer throw as he placed 16th with a mark of 61.82 meters, and junior David Slovenski was 12th in the pole vault clearing 5.25 meters to capture his first All-America honor.
Dinkins would also earn honorable mention All-America accolades for finishing 19th in the 800, while junior Alex Banfich was 20th in the women's 5000-meter run. This is Banfich's second All-America honor in the outdoor 5k.
Honors are awarded for performances at the final site of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships occurring the previous weekend in Des Moines, Iowa. First-team USTFCCCA All-America honors are awarded to those who earn any portion of a team point at the national championships, or reach an eight-entrant final. Second-team All-America honors are handed out to those whose final placing in the national meet range from ninth to 16th place. Those who participated at the final site but did not place in the meet's top 16 are listed as honorable mention for the All-America award.
