National Hockey League Players
Princeton's presence in the National Hockey League continues in the 2013-14 season as the Tigers have had five players appear at the NHL level during the season.
Jeff Halpern '99 signed with the Phoenix Coyotes in October after a brief stint in the SM-Liiga in Findland, signing a one-year two-way contract. Halpern played for both the New York Rangers and the Montreal Canadiens in 2012-13. A faceoff specialist, Halpern enters the season with 147 goals and 214 assists for 361 points in 907 career games in the NHL.
George Parros '03 begins his first full season with the Montreal Canadiens. Parros was acquired in a trade with the Florida Panthers in July. Parros has played in 452 regular season games since his NHL debut in 2005-06. He has collected 35 points on 18 goals and 17 assists and 1,007 penalty minutes. Parros previously played for Los Angeles, Colorado, Anaheim, where he won the Stanley Cup in 2007, and most recently Florida. Parros was a member of the NHLPA Player Negotiation Committee in 2012.
Darroll Powe '07 begins his second year with the New York Rangers. He was traded to the Rangers last season from the Minnesota Wild. Last season, Powe played in 34 games with the Rangers, missing a portion with a concussion sustained in his fifth game. He played on a line and on the PK with Jeff Halpern this season. In 328 NHL games, Powe has scored 28 goals and 28 assists.
Kevin Westgarth '07 was traded from Carolina to Calgary in December 2013. He played in 43 games with the Hurricanes after joining the team in 2012-13 and had four points and 49 penalty minutes. He has played in 139 NHL games, including playoffs, collecting 11 points and 216 penalty minutes. Westgarth previously played for Los Angeles, frim 2008-12, winning the Stanley Cup in 2012. Along with Parros, Westgarth was also a member of the NHLPA Player Negotiation Committee in 2012.
Taylor Fedun '11 played in his first NHL game with the Edmonton Oilers on Nov. 5 and scored his first goal in the same game. Fedun signed with the Oilers following his graduation and has played with Oklahoma City. Fedun suffered a season-ending injury during the 2011-12 preseason. In 2012-13, Fedun played 70 games with Oklahoma City scored eight goals and 19 assists with 30 penalty minutes.
Additionally, three Tigers entered the 2013-14 season under NHL contracts.
Mike Moore '08 signed a two-way one-year contract with the Boston Bruins in July 2013. Moore played in 50 games for Nashville Predators' AHL affiliate Milwaukee Admirals in 2012-13 season as team captain. He had 16 points on five goals and 11 assists and recorded 42 penalty minutes. Moore previously played for San Jose and its affiliate the Worcester Sharks from 2007-12. Moore has played six games in the NHL for San Jose, scoring one goal and taking seven penalty minutes.
Michael Sdao '13 signed a one-year contract with the Ottawa Senators in March. He played in 12 games with the Binghamton Senators and scored one goal in his first game and served 23 penalty minutes.
Mike Condon '13 signed a two-year contract (2013-14, 2014-15) with the Montreal Canadiens in May. After Princeton Condon played four games for the Ontario Reign (ECHL) before playing eight games with the Houston Aeros (AHL) including three in the playoffs.
Off the ice, Brent Flahr '96 was named the assistant general manager of the Minnesota Wild in July 2009. Flahr has 15+ years of experience working in an NHL front office. Flahr spent 1996 to 2003 with the Florida Panthers in a variety of positions, including Assistant to the General Manager, and Scouting and Video Coordinator. In 2003 he began a four-year stint as scout for the Anaheim Ducks, where he was a part of the team that won the 2007 Stanley Cup. Flahr was the Director of Hockey Operations with Ottawa from two years before being hired with the Wild.
Chris Corrinet '01, a Capitals' fourth-round draft choice in 1998, appeared in eight NHL games in the 2001-02 season and tallied an assist. During that time, him and Halpern became the first Princeton alums to appear in the same NHL game as teammates.
Princeton classmates Andre Faust '92 and Mike McKee '92 became the first two Princeton alums to play on opposing teams in an NHL game. McKee's Quebec Nordiques defeated Faust's Philadelphia Flyers 6-4 in Quebec City in January 1994. McKee scored a goal for the Nordiques, while Faust had an assist for the Flyers. Faust (NHL totals: 47gp, 10g, 7a) became the first Princeton graduate to score in the NHL, posting a goal in his first game. He later spent time in the Winnipeg Jets farm system. McKee (NHL totals: 48gp, 3g, 12a) had a regular shift on the blue line for the Nordiques after being called up from Cornwall of the AHL in November 1993. He finished the season with 15 points.
The two players were not the first Princetonians to skate in an NHL game, however. Ed Lee '84 played two games (no points) for the Nordiques in 1984-85. Syl M. Apps '70, the father of the Syl Apps '99, played freshman hockey at Princeton before enjoying a 10-year pro career with stops in New York, Los Angeles and Pittsburgh. Apps (NHL totals: 727gp, 183g, 423a) was an NHL All-Star Game MVP and later elected to the Penguins Hall of Fame.

Princeton and the NHL Draft
The Princeton men's hockey team has seen 23 of its players drafted in the National Hockey League's entry draft since the draft began in 1963. Additionally, two Tigers were been selected in the supplemental draft, which occured up until 1994 when the draft rules were adjusted to include certain college players.
