D'Amato Earns Bid to U.S. Amateur
August 17, 2011 | Men's Golf
Princeton junior golfer Bernie D'Amato added a late-summer trip to his schedule before returning to campus as he will compete in the U.S. Amateur championship beginning Aug. 22.
D'Amato was a late add to the event after finishing third at his local qualifying event in Hamden, Conn., earlier this month and earning a spot as an alternate to the U.S. Amateur. Since then, a place in the field opened up, and D'Amato got the call.
The event will begin with two rounds of stroke play on Aug. 22-23 at Erin Hills Golf Club and Blue Mound Golf and Country Club, both outside Milwaukee, Wis. The top 64 players after stroke play in a field of more than 150 will advance to match play beginning Aug. 24 and concluding Aug. 28.
While in the Princeton colors, D'Amato, whose younger brother Joseph will be joining the team for 2011-12, competed in the Ivy League Championship in 2010 and 2011, earning All-Ivy honors as a freshman.
