Men's Water Polo Wins Third Straight, 13-2 over Harvard
September 11, 2011 | Men's Water Polo
PRINCETON (9/10/11) - The 17th-ranked Princeton men's water polo team ran its record to 3-0 with a 13-2 win over Ivy rival Harvard on Saturday night at DeNunzio Pool. Princeton had goals from 10 scorers, including a four-goal performance from freshman Kayj Shannon.
The Tigers took advantage of a tired Harvard squad by racing to a 5-0 lead in the first half. The lead would be 12-0 in the fourth quarter before the Crimson could get on the scoreboard. Harvard played an overtime game against George Washington four hours prior to the start of the night game.
Shannon's four goals was a season high and he has now scored in each of his first three games as a Tiger. Nine other Tigers added single goals, including a 5-meter goal from Chris Cottrell and counter goals from Connor Still, Mike Helou, Jack Ruth, Billy Tifft and Sam Butler.
Drew Hoffenberg had four assists for the Tigers, leading the team in the category for the second-straight game, while he and Tommy Donahue each provided three steals. Tyler Amina made seven saves in three-plus quarters of action.
Princeton is now 3-0 on the season. The Tigers continue the Princeton Invitational on Sunday with games against Brown (8 a.m.) and MIT (1:50 p.m.).
