Men's Golf to Visit Bethpage for McLaughlin Event
September 14, 2011 | Men's Golf
The Tigers began participating in the event in 1994. Held on the Red Course, the McLaughlin is played at the same facility that hosted the 2002 and 2009 U.S. Open championships on the Black Course. Last year, Princeton tied its high finish in the event when it took second place, two shots behind West Florida. Indivudally, Bernie D'Amato was one shot off medalist honors. As a team, Princeton also finshed second in 2002.
This year's tournament will feature 18 teams including three other Ivy League programs in Columbia, Dartmouth and Harvard. Also in the field are Bethune Cookman, George Mason, IUPUI, Johnson & Wales, Loyola (Md.), Savannah State, Seattle, Sacred Heart, St. John's, St. Thomas, Temple, TCU, Villanova and West Florida. It will be the second straight week Princeton and Harvard will play the same Long Island course, with the two teams and Yale playing a match-play event in Southampton, N.Y. last Sunday.
The par-70, 6,734-yard Red Course will see two rounds played Friday with a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m. and one round Saturday with the first tee time at 7:40 a.m.
Last week in the tri-meet with Harvard and Yale, Princeton's lineup included all six of its returners, D'Amato, Evan Harmeling, Greg Jarmas, Chase Lovett-Woodsum, Taylor Peck and Patrick Wasserman. Two freshmen, Joseph D'Amato and Jason Zhou, join the Tigers this year.
