Men's Soccer Drops 1-0 Weekend Finale Against Furman
September 04, 2011 | Men's Soccer
Despite more than twice as many shots and corner kicks as its opponent, the Princeton men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season to conclude its opening weekend at the Nike / Aaron Olitsky Memorial Challenge. A second-half goal by Amadu Ndiaye gave Furman a 1-0 victory Sunday afternoon.
Although Princeton outshot its two opponents this weekend by a combined 30-18, the Tigers will return home still seeking their first victory of the 2011 season. The reigning Ivy League champion will try to get that victory Friday night in its home opener, a 7 p.m. start against Fairleigh Dickinson. Princeton opened its season with a 0-0 tie against the host College of Charleston.
The winning goal came on a set piece midway through the second half. Daniel Hojalj served a corner kick into the box, and Ndiaye finished for his second goal of the season.
Princeton would have a trio of corner kicks the rest of the half, but didn't manage a shot on net. Its lone shot on goal from that point was a header by midfielder Dylan Bowman, but Alec Kahn turned it away for one of his six saves in the win.
