Rasheed Named Ivy League Co-Player Of The Week
January 02, 2012 | Women's Basketball
As the final seconds ticked away in what would be a 63-51 Princeton win over Drexel in women's basketball Saturday, Niveen Rasheed pressured the ball as it came up the court. As the entire bench exhorted her to get back and not foul, Rasheed came up with a steal instead.
Hey, it was that kind of week for Rasheed. And when she has those kinds of weeks, Princeton victories usually follow.
Rasheed put up 36 points, 19 rebounds, 10 assists and nine steals in two games, both Princeton victories, to earn Ivy League Co-Player of the Week honors along with Brown's Hannah Passafiume.
For Rasheed, it was the third time this year that she earned weekly honors from the Ivy League. She's also been the Ivy Player or Rookie of the Week 15 times now in her career.
Rasheed began her week with 14 points, six rebounds, six steals and five assists in a 74-69 win over a Hofstra team that was 9-2 and had beaten three NCAA tournament teams from a year ago.
She then had 22 points, 13 rebounds, five assists and three steals in the win over Drexel.
Rasheed is second in the Ivy League in points per game (17.6 points per game) and leads the league in rebounding (8.8). She's in the top five in the league in eight statistical categories, including assists and field goal percentage.
The wins left Princeton at 10-4 on the season headed into Saturday's Ivy League opener at Penn. Princeton then hosts Cornell and Columbia Jan. 13-14 before breaking for first semester exams.
