The Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Kickoff Weekend will start the dual-meet season for the Princeton men's tennis team when the Tigers hit the court Saturday in College Station, Texas.
The event will begin Saturday at 1 p.m. ET against Mississippi State, the No. 14 team in the Jan. 24 ITA rankings. The Bulldogs boast four players in the ITA's top 100, including No. 32 George Coupland, No. 45 Louis Cant, No. 79 James Chaudry and No. 90 Malte Stropp. Matija Pecotic checks in at No. 46 for the 63rd-ranked Tigers. On the doubles side, Cant and Stropp are ranked No. 12, while Princeton's Matt Siow and Matt Spindler are No. 11 in the nation.
A match between No. 11 Texas A&M and No. 72 Purdue will follow, and the winning and losing teams from the two matches will meet Sunday. Texas A&M will be in the 4 p.m. ET match Sunday, while the other match will be at 1 p.m. ET.
The Aggies have three players in the ITA singles rankings, including No. 19 Alexis Klegou, No. 73 Jeremy Efferding, and No. 104 Junior Ore. Purdue has one ranked player, No. 105 Mark Kovacs. Neither team has a ranked doubles pair.
The team that emerges 2-0 from the foursome will play in the ITA National Team Indoor Championship at Virginia in February as one of 16 winners from the 16 four-team regional sites.
Of the other three schools at the Texas A&M regional, Princeton has faced only Purdue. The Tigers are 3-0 all-time against the Boilermakers, winning in 2004, 2005 and 2009 with each match taking place in San Diego, Calif.
