The No. 18 Princeton men's water polo team has earned the second seed in the 2012 CWPA Southern Division Championship this weekend from Nov. 2-4 at Bucknell in Lewisburg, Pa. The Tigers (12-10, 5-3 Southern) are in Bracket B, which features seventh-seeded Notre Dame College and 11th-seeded Penn State Behrend.
Princeton concluded the regular season with an exhibition victory over Dartmouth, 18-13, at the Ivy League Championship on Oct. 28. Nine different Tigers saw the back of the net, with Matt Weber headlining the offense with six goals. Both Brendan Byrne and Tyler Amina split the game in goal, combining for 12 saves in the winning effort.
Southern's is a four-bracket championship, with No. 14 Navy earning the top seed. The Midshipmen are the only conference foe that the Tigers have not defeated this season.
Princeton's opening opponent Notre Dame enters the weekend riding a 9-11 record. The Falcons are coming off a third-place finish at the CWPA Division II Eastern Championship leading up to Southerns. NDC fell to Gannon in the opening round, before handing Salem International an 18-10 loss for third. Following the DII tournament, the Falcons dropped Penn State Behrend, 15-4, in their season finale. Updated stats were not available for Notre Dame.
The Tigers' second bracket opponent Penn State Behrend currently is riding an 18-game losing streak. Ali Khan is the Lions' (1-20) leading scorer with 57 goals, while Kody Veit is the squad's dish leader with 30 assists. In goal, Ty Elder has served as PSB's lone goaltender, making 157 saves and allowing 227 goals against.
The remainder of the tournament schedule for the Tigers will be determined based on their results in bracket play.
