Edwards Named Ivy League Player of the Week
February 27, 2012 | Women's Basketball
Coming off a career weekend, Princeton women's basketball senior Lauren Edwards has been named Ivy League Player of the Week, announced by the league Monday. Edwards has been instrumental in the Tigers (21-4 overall, 11-0 Ivy) winning their third consecutive outright Ivy League Championship and earning a berth into the NCAA Tournament.
Edwards' standout weekend opened with 17 points, eight boards, three steals, three blocks and two assists in Princeton's 77-44 win over Harvard on Feb. 24, but she was not done there. She followed up her double figure scoring effort versus the Crimson with a career night versus Dartmouth the next day. The Los Angeles, Calif. native scored a career-high 29 points, tallying career bests in both field goals (11) and three-pointers (7) along the way. She also had three assists, two rebounds and a steal in Princeton's 94-57 victory over the Big Green.
The Tiger guard, who is a finalist for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, currently is averaging 11.6 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. The weekly conference honor is the third of her career and she is the second Tiger to earn it this season, as junior Niveen Rasheed has been selected four times.
Princeton, who owns a 14-game winning streak, hits the road for a final Ivy trip this weekend at Yale (Mar. 2) and Brown (Mar. 3), before concluding the regular season at home versus Penn on Tuesday, Mar. 6 at 5 p.m.
