Sacramento State Cuts Softball's Sunday Short

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sacramento State defeated the Princeton softball team 10-1 in five innings Sunday afternoon in California's capital, ending the game early with a four-run fifth inning.
The Hornets (16-8) were up 6-0 after three innings before Princeton (3-9) got on the board in the fourth. Nicole Ontiveros led off with a double, took third on a wild pitch and came home on an Alyssa Schmidt sacrifice fly.
Alex Peyton (1-4) threw three innings and gave up five runs, six earned, on eight hits and a walk before Meredith Brown threw the last 1 2/3 frames, giving up four unearned runs on two hits.
Ontiveros, Peyton and Lizzy Pierce split Princeton's three hits.
The Tigers will have a trio of midweek games between Tuesday and Wednesday at California and Saint Mary's before playing in Pacific's tournament for four more contests Thursday through Saturday.
