MORAGA, Calif. -- A pair of Saint Mary's pitchers tossed shutouts against the Princeton softball team Tuesday afternoon, leading to 1-0 and 2-0 wins for the Gaels in a doubleheader.
Princeton fell to 3-12 on the season while the Gaels rose to 9-14.
Game 1: Saint Mary's 1, Princeton 0
Brittany Linton scattered four hits between four Tiger batters in the circle for the Gaels. Princeton's biggest threat came in the fourth inning, when the Tigers had two hits and a walk to load the bases with one out. A flyout and an out at home plate trying to turn the out into a sacrifice fly ended the inning.
Princeton's two other singles were split between the sixth and seventh innings. Two walks and a two-out single put Saint Mary's ahead 1-0 in the first inning against Tiger pitcher Alex Peyton (1-5), and the Gaels made it stand up.
Game 2: Saint Mary's 2, Princeton 0
Jessica Lemmon gave up just two hits for the Gaels in her shutout performance in the nightcap. Nicole Ontiveros broke up the no-hit bid leading off the sixth inning, and Cara Worden had a leadoff single in the seventh.
Three walks and a single in the fourth inning against Liza Kuhn (1-4) led to the Gaels' first run, and two singles and a walk in the sixth led to the second run.
Princeton will begin a four-game weekend at Pacific Thursday facing host Pacific twice and Saint Mary's and San Diego State before ending the trip Saturday.
