Pacific Opens Home Tourney With Win over Softball, 5-0
March 23, 2012 | Softball
STOCKTON, Calif. -- Nicole Ontiveros led off the game with a single for the Princeton softball team, and that was the only hit Pacific pitcher Tori Shepard allowed in her team's 5-0 win Thursday evening in California.
Princeton (3-13) reached runners on an error in the third and a walk in the fourth, but no more. Shepard (5-4) retired the last 10 Princeton batters of the game.
Pacific (15-10) started the scoring with a first-inning solo home run by Kelsey Rodriguez and added another in the third before Megan Foglesong had a two-run double in the fifth to make it 4-0. Rodriguez added another RBI single in the sixth for the final run. Alex Peyton (1-6) threw all six innings for the Tigers.
The Tigers will continue play at Pacific with a 3 p.m. Eastern Time game Friday against San Diego State before a 5:15 p.m. game against Saint Mary's.
