Coaches Corner: Women's Basketball Season Wrap Up

The 2011-12 Princeton women's basketball team elevated the status of the up-and-coming program to new heights this season. Not only did they win the Ivy League Championship for the third consecutive season, a program first, but the Tigers made their mark on the national stage. Princeton was the first-ever Ivy women's team to earn a national ranking, finishing the year at No. 24 in the AP Poll. They also were the highest seeded Ivy team at No. 9 in the NCAA Tournament. In addition, Lauren Edwards was named a Lowe's Senior CLASS Award Second Team All-American and junior Niveen Rasheed earned First Team All-American honors from Full Court.
While one goal still eludes the program - a win in the NCAA Tournament - the 2011-12 campaign was one chalk full of milestones and accomplishments.
2011-12 Highlights:
- 24-5 overall, 14-0 Ivy League record
- Was perfect in league play for the second time in three years
- Remained in the top-50 in RPI all season
- Defeated six teams in the top-100 in RPI
- 22 of 24 wins were by double figures
- Only Division I men's or women's team to defeat all conference opponents by 10 points or more.
- Won Ivy League title for third consecutive time and earned third bid in program history into NCAA Tournament.
- Niveen Rasheed was the unanimous Ivy League Player of the Year and All-Ivy First Team selection; Full Court Mid-Major First Team All-American; ECAC All-Star First Team selection; Net Scouts All-America Honorable Mention.
- Lauren Edwards was a Lowe's Senior CLASS Award Second Team All-American and unanimous All-Ivy First Team selection.
- Lauren Polansky earned consecutive Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year accolades.
- Devona Allgood was named to the All-Ivy Second Team.
