Women's Basketball Assistant Coach Melanie Moore to Leave Princeton
May 16, 2012 | Women's Basketball
Melanie Moore, assistant coach of the Princeton women's basketball team, announced she has accepted a position with the University of Michigan program. Moore joins the first-year staff of Kim Barnes Arico, who spent 10 seasons at the helm of the St. John's program.
"Mel is all the right things about college basketball. She's a tireless recruiter, a gifted positional coach and a true professional. My staff and I will miss her daily contribution within the Princeton program, but we're very excited that she can continue to follow her coaching passion, while living much closer to her family. The University of Michigan is gaining a great person and her family is welcoming back one of their own," said head coach Courtney Banghart.
Over Moore's five years at Princeton, the Tigers posted a 95-50 overall, 65-16 Ivy League record, including three 24-plus win seasons and two perfect 14-0 Ivy slates. The Tigers, who earned the Ivy League's first-ever women's basketball national ranking in 2012 at No. 24, won the Ivy title the last three consecutive seasons and earned berths into the NCAA Tournament. In addition, each of Princeton's recruiting classes boasted nationally ranked prospects from ESPN HoopGurlz.
"I would like to thank Courtney and Milena (Flores) for an amazing five years together. I am proud of what we have accomplished and it has been a pleasure working with the current and former players. I also want to thank Gary Walters and the entire Princeton Department of Athletics for making this such a great place to be and for setting a standard for excellence. I will miss the Princeton community and look forward to following the Tigers future success," said Moore.
