Kelly Pierce, Heidi Robbins Earn First-Team All-America Honors By CRCA
June 05, 2012 | Women's Rowing - Open
After leading Princeton to a fourth-place finish in both the NCAA Championships varsity eight final and the team race, senior Kelly Pierce and junior Heidi Robbins both earned First-Team All-America honors by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association.
Both Pierce and Robbins have been driving forces behind Princeton's strong two-year surge, which was punctuated by a brilliant final weekend at the 2012 NCAA Championships. Seeded sixth coming in, Princeton reached the grand final and placed fourth, topping former No. 1 California along the way. The finish helped the Tigers place fourth overall for a second straight year.
Both rowers were members of Princeton's 2011 NCAA and Ivy League champion, and they helped the Tigers win the 2012 team trophy at the inaugural Ivy League Sprints. The team went 7-0 in the Ivy League during the regular season, and their only two dual-race losses came to Michigan and USC, both of whom finished in the top three in the 2012 NCAA grand final.
Both Pierce and Robbins both earned First-Team All-Mid Atlantic Region honors, while seniors Margaret Daly and Lila Flavin earned Second-Team All-Mid Atlantic Region honors.
The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) recognizes the outstanding performances of rowers and coxswains on the national level in women's collegiate rowing.
