Squash Teams Head To Philadelphia For Midweek Showdowns At Drexel
December 03, 2013 | Women's Squash
The Princeton men's and women's squash teams have two more matches during the 2013 portion of their schedules, and both will begin with midweek matchups against a rising Drexel program.
The Princeton men (1-1) will begin the week with a Tuesday night match (6:30) at the Kline & Specter Squash Center in Philadelphia. The Drexel men are 2-3 on the season, though it is coming off a 5-4 victory over Williams before Thanksgiving. The Dragons dropped a hard-fought 5-4 match to Cornell earlier in the season; the Dragons came within two points at the No. 3 spot from pulling off the upset.
The Tigers will be looking to build a two-match win streak, and will be led by its junior All-America duo of Samuel Kang and Tyler Osborne. It will also serve as a homecoming for head coach Sean Wilkinson, who served as the Drexel assistant coach last year.
The Princeton women (2-0) will head to Drexel Wednesday night (7:00) to take on the Dragons (2-2). The reigning Ivy League champions haven't lost an individual game yet this season, and both wins have come against teams (Franklin & Marshall, Williams) who played 5-4 matches against Drexel early this season.
The Tigers have gotten impressive play from a pair of freshmen. Maria Elena Ubina is unbeaten at the No. 1 position for Princeton, while classmate Alexandra Toth is 2-0 at the No. 8 spot.
Both teams will travel for weekend matches before going on a winter break. The women head to Washington, D.C., to take on George Washington at 11 am Saturday, while the men will take on Top 5 rival Rochester Saturday at noon.
