The Princeton baseball team is set to host Rider on Wednesday, Apr. 24 in its final regular season non-conference matchup of the year. First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m. at Clarke Field versus the Broncs (23-15, 9-3 MAAC).
Last Time Out: The Tigers (12-25, 9-7 Ivy) added another level of complexity in their hopes of advancing to the Ivy League Championship Series, going 1-3 in a crucial series versus first-place Columbia last weekend. The Lions swept day one, before Princeton responded with a split to conclude the series.
The Tigers' lone victory came behind a 2-0 shutout complete game victory from Mike Ford. The top hurler in the league, he scattered five hits and a walk, while striking out a pair in 29 batters faced.
On Deck: Princeton concludes the regular season this weekend with a home-away four-game series versus Cornell. The Big Red head to Clarke Field on Friday, Apr. 26 for a doubleheader beginning at 12 noon. The series concludes two days later in Ithaca, N.Y.
The Ivy Race: Columbia separated itself with a 3-1 weekend versus the Tigers to put the Lions three games ahead of second-place Princeton and Cornell. In order for the Tigers to win the Gehrig Division they will need to sweep the Big Red this weekend and see a sweep from last place Penn versus Columbia.
Ford's on Fire: Junior right-hander Mike Ford has commanded each of his starts throughout the Ivy schedule, winning all four outings to improve to 5-0 on the year. He owns league bests in ERA (1.00), opponent batting average (1.91) and innings pitched (54). Ford's five wins ties him for second in the conference.
Scouting Rider: Rider enters this week's meeting following its 2-1 series versus Saint Peter's to improve to 23-15, 9-3 MAAC. Jerry Mulderig serves as the Broncs' lone batter hitting above .300, going 42-for-117 (.359) over 36 starts. Nick Crescenzo has 26 RBI and Adam Wayman has scored 26 runs, both team bests. Left-hander Joe Calogero (1-2) will take the start Wednesday, marking his seventh appearance and fourth start. Over 18 frames, he's tossed seven strikeouts, seven walks and opponents are hitting .324 against him.
