Nine Members Of Ivy Champion Tigers To Compete At US Open/Junior Nationals
July 26, 2013 | Men's Swimming and Diving
Winning five straight Ivy League titles doesn't come solely from the work done during the academic year, as Princeton has shown consistently. The summer of 2013 hasn't been any different, as eight members of the Tiger swimming and diving squad will head to Irvine for the 2013 US Open, while reigning NCAA qualifier Byron Sanborn will head to Junior Nationals.
The 2013 US Open will take place July 30 through August 3 at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center. The following members of the reigning Ivy League championship squad will be in competition:
| Name | Class Year | Event(s) |
| Oliver Bennett | 2015 | 200 Fly |
| Teo D'Alessandro | 2016 | 100/200 Free, 100 Fly, 100 Breast, 200 IM |
| Mauricio Gonzalez-Aranda | 2015 | 200 Fly |
| Daniel Hasler | 2014 | 100/200 Breast, 200/400 IM |

Joining that group of eight will be an incoming freshman who will hope to build on Princeton's championship streak this summer. Sam Smiddy will compete in the 400 IM; you can read about the incoming Class of 2017 here.
Sanborn, a Top 30 finisher at NCAAs and one of six Tigers to compete at nationals this past March, will compete at the 2013 Speedo Junior National Championships, held Aug. 5-9 at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center. Sanborn will compete in the 100 and 200 breast, as well as the 200 IM.
Rising sophomore Jeremy Wong recently competed in the World University Games, where he swam the 50 and 100 free, as well as the 400/800 free relays and the 400 medley relay. He posted a best time of 50.83 in his 100 free.
