Monday Notes: Quinn Meets Quinn, '64 Ivy Champs Return, Brown Highlights
October 20, 2014 | Football
While the rest of the week will be devoted to the first-place showdown this Saturday between No. 21 Harvard and Princeton (1 pm, ESPN3, WPRB 103.3 FM), there are some additional notes to fill up your Monday, as well as the highlights from the 27-16 win over Brown.
• The 1964 Princeton football team still remains the last squad in Orange and Black to complete a perfect season. Led by All-Americas Cosmo Iacavazzi, Stas Maliszewski and Charlie Gogolak, as well as future College Football Hall of Fame head coach Dick Colman, Princeton was one of the true powers in the East and challenged for a spot in the Top 10 of the national polls.
That team included 14 players who would earn first-team All-Ivy League honors prior to their graduation, and many of those players will return to Powers Field this Saturday to celebrate the 50th anniversary of that historic season. The '64 team will be honored at halftime of the Princeton-Harvard game.
• While Quinn Epperly, the 2013 Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year, was injured and missed the Brown game, it didn't stop him from making Quinn Epperly's day. Confused?
After one of Epperly's signature performances during Princeton's Ivy championship season, the father of Ohio native Quinn Epperly saw the familiar name scroll across his TV screen. His son drew a few pictures that were mailed to Princeton, and the junior quarterback sent a return letter inviting him to a Princeton game.
The Epperly family flew to New Jersey for Saturday's 27-16 win over Brown. While the 8-year-old never got to see him namesake take a snap, he did get to snap a few pictures with him afterwards. Below is part of an email his mother, DeLynn, sent the football staff afterwards:
All of Quinn's family were very kind and gracious throughout our visit. We could not have asked for a more welcoming family or university. Thank you for having us and making our day very special. Though my Quinn may not have shown it well, he was very excited to be there and share in the game and the events following. It's a memory that will have no equal.
• Highlights of the game are available on the video above. Connor Michelsen, Matt Costello and Mike Zeuli were all named to the Ivy League Honor Roll following the game.
