Women's Golf Stands Fifth After Second Day at Penn State
October 04, 2014 | Women's Golf
One round remains for the Princeton women's golf team at the Penn State Nittany Lion Invitational on the university's Blue Course, and Alex Wong is the top Tiger in central Pennsylvania.
Wong, a junior, carded a second-round 73, three shots better than Friday's score, to lead the team. Freshman Tenley Shield turned in a 76 to cut eight shots off her first-round score and record the best round of her young Princeton career.
Princeton remained in fifth place after the second round, now in a tie alongside Akron. Ivies occupy the top three spots, with Columbia at +22 one shot ahead of Yale and four in front of Harvard. Western Michigan is in fourth, five shots off the pace, and Akron and the Tigers are 13 shots back of Columbia.
Ariana Coyle of Penn State, a day after opening with a tournament-low 68, maintained her standing atop the individual leaderboard at -3 as the only player in red numbers. Four players are tied for second at +3, six shots back of Coyle, with Wong tied for eighth and eight shots back.
