PRINCETON, N.J. – Junior guard Michelle Miller has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week after helping the Princeton University women's basketball team to a pair of opening weekend wins over Pittsburgh and Duquesne.
Averaging 18.0 points in 31.5 minutes, Miller also collected 5.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in her two outings. Shooting 41.9 percent (13-for-31) from the floor, she was 5-for-12 (41.7 percent) from behind the arc and 5-of-7 (71.4 percent) from the free throw line.
Scoring a career-high 34 points against Seton Hall in last season's finale, Miller picked up right where she left off in the team's opener at Pitt, netting all of her game-high 16 points in the second period to help the Tigers' erase a 20-19 halftime deficit en route to a 59-43 victory. Also pulling down seven rebounds in 36 minutes of action, she added a block and an assist.
Against Duquesne, Miller scored early and often, once again leading all scorers with 20 points. Connecting on eight of her 16 shot attempts, she was 4-of-8 from long distance. Grabbing four rebounds, she also dished out three assists to help the Tigers cruise to a 79-62 win.
Thanks to her role in Princeton's two victories, Miller was also named the CollegeSportsMadness.com Mid-Major Player of the Week.
The Tigers welcome Drexel University to Jadwin Gymnasium on Wednesday, Nov. 19 for its 2014-15 home opener.
