Hoffenberg Named CWPA Southern Division Player of the Year

PRINCETON, N.J. – Helping to guide the eighth-ranked Princeton University men's water polo team to a 21-3 overall record, Drew Hoffenberg has been named the 2014 CWPA Southern Division Player of the Year. Garnering his fourth all-league selection, he joined teammates Vojislav Mitrovic and Thomas Nelson on the Southern first team.
In the midst of a stellar senior season, Hoffenberg currently leads the team in goals (57), while ranking second in assists (24) and steals (38). Drawing a Princeton best 52 ejections, Hoffenberg is also tied for the team lead with nine blocks. Factoring into the scoring in all of the Tigers' 24 games, he has recorded at least three goals in each of his last five appearances.
The seventh Princeton player to garner Southern Player of the Year accolades, Hoffenberg has led the Tigers in scoring every season since his arrival in 2011. With 233 goals and 125 assists, he ranks fourth and second, respectively, on Princeton's career charts. He is the only Tiger in program history to amass at least 200 goals and 100 helpers.
A staple in the Princeton lineup, Nelson currently ranks third on the team in goals (35) and steals (27). Drawing 13 ejections, he also has 12 assists and eight blocks to his credit. Recording a point in all but three of his 21 appearances, he has posted 10 multi-goal games, netting a season high four scores three times. With 122 goals over the course of his first three seasons, Nelson currently ranks 11th on the Tigers' scoring list.
Making an immediate impact in his first full season, Mitrovic has logged 575:37 minutes in 19 appearances. Posting a 16-2 record, the freshman goalie has stopped 216 of the 370 shots he has faced en route to a 0.584 save percentage. Collecting double-digit saves in 14 of his outings, he twice registered a season-high 16 stops against Loyola Marymount on Oct. 11 and Iona on Oct. 25.
