Tarakchian Named Ivy League Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week
December 22, 2014 | Women's Basketball
PRINCETON, N.J. – Annie Tarakchian of the Princeton University women's basketball team has been named the Ivy League Co-Player of the Week after helping the Tigers extend their conference record start to 13-0.
In three lopsided wins over Delaware, Portland State and Monmouth, Tarakchian averaged 16.7 points and 11.3 rebounds per game. Knocking down 65.4 percent (17-26) of her shot attempts, she hit 75.0 percent (12-16) of her three-pointers. Averaging 27.0 minutes in those outings, she also collected 2.3 assists and 2.0 steals.
Flirting with a double-double, she finished with 22 points, nine rebounds, and five assists against the Blue Hens. Her 22 points were one-shy of matching her career-high, while her seven made field goals (7-10) and five triples (5-6) were both personal bests.
Setting the tone in the Tigers' record-setting victory over Portland St., Tarakchian posted 16 points and 11 rebounds despite playing just 19 minutes. Going 6-for-9 from the floor and 4-for-5 from three, she helped Princeton surpass the 100-point plateau for the first time in program history. The Orange and Black's 71-point margin of victory over the Vikings is the largest under the tenure of eight-year head coach Courtney Banghart.
Closing out the week against the Hawks, Tarakchian recorded her second double-double in as many games with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Her 14 boards tied a career-high set earlier this season against Montana. Hitting four of her seven shot attempts, she was 3-for-5 from beyond the arc.
With Tarakchian's most recent honor, Princeton became the first conference team to lay claim to each of the first six Ivy League Player of the Week awards of the season. Michelle Miller was the first Tiger to receive recognition on Nov. 17, followed by Blake Dietrick (Nov. 24). Tarakchian was named the conference's POTW on Dec. 1, with Dietrick nabbing the next two accolades on Dec. 8 and 15.
