Lazo, Lussi Earn All-Region Honors as Women's Soccer Claims Academic Awards
December 03, 2014 | Women's Soccer
The NSCAA has announced some of its slate of awards as the 2014 women's soccer season winds to a close nationally, and Princeton was among the honorees.
The team was recognized for maintaining at least a 3.0 GPA for the 2013-14 school year, and the list of individual honorees has yet to be released.
On the pitch itself, senior Lauren Lazo and sophomore Tyler Lussi were honored with inclusion to the NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic team, with Lazo on the first team and Lussi on the second team.
Lazo was one of 11 players from schools between Massachusetts and Maryland to be recognized. She finished the year with eight goals and 10 assists, the most assists in the Ivy League this season and the second-most assists in a season in program history behind the 12 from Esmeralda Negron '05 in 2004. Lazo also finished with 26 career assists, tying her for the program record now shared with Diana Matheson '08. Her 28 career goals are tied for fifth with Lussi, and her 82 career points are also fifth in program history. Lazo finished her career with four All-Ivy League honors and her second first-team all-league recognition, making her the first Tiger since Matheson to earn All-Ivy recognition all four years. Lazo was an NSCAA second-team All-Mid-Atlantic region honoree in 2012.
Lussi, the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year, had 18 goals and three assists, tying for the second-most goals in a season in program history and more than any non-senior has scored in a season at Princeton. Lussi led the Ivy in shots overall and per game, points overall and per game, goals overall and per game, and game-winning goals. Already, Lussi stands seventh in Princeton history with 63 career points, and her 39 points this season were the third-most in a season. She will enter her junior year tied for fifth in program history with 28 goals, more than halfway to the program record of 47 held by Negron. This is the first NSCAA All-Region honor for Lussi.
