One game after a second-half run for Princeton's opponent turned a win into a loss, the Tigers were able to reverse that and use a big second-half run to pull out a 77-64 victory Saturday against Stony Brook.

Trailing 55-46 with less than 10 minutes to go, Princeton responded with a 23-4 run to take a 10 point lead with less than two minutes to play. Though the Seawolves pulled within seven at 69-62 with 80 seconds to go, Princeton defended its lead from the free-throw line with Aaron Young, Hans Brase and Spencer Weisz going 8 of 8 from the stripe to close it out.

Steven Cook had a career-high 28 points, doubling the sophomore's previous best as a Tiger. He added seven steals, one from the Princeton record for a stat kept since the 1974-75 season.

The turnaround from Wednesday's 89-85 loss at Fairleigh Dickinson that included a 25-4 second-half run for the Knights was on the defensive end. Princeton had 14 steals and forced 23 Stony Brook turnovers, the most steals for a Tiger team since getting 14 against Wagner in 2012 and the most turnovers since getting 25 against Goucher in 2010. Princeton forced 27 turnovers against Wagner earlier in that 2009-10 season.

Stony Brook shot 62.5 percent in the first half but turned it up after the break, limiting the Seawolves to just 9 of 30 from the floor and 1 of 10 from 3-point range, a great improvement for a team that entered the game allowing opponents a 46.7 percent clip from beyond the arc.

Clay Wilson (13 points), Pete Miller (12) and Hans Brase (11) joined Cook in double figures, with Brase a rebound away from a double-double. Two Stony Brook players, Rayshaun McGrew (18 points, 10 boards) and reigning America East Player of the Year Jameel Warney (12 points, 13 rebounds), had double-doubles as the Seawolves outrebounded Princeton 37-24.

Clay Wilson's 3-pointer with 2:10 to go gave Princeton a seven-point lead at 66-59. It was Princeton's largest lead to that point, though the Tigers grew the lead to 13 in the final minute.

• Steven Cook's 28 points were the most for any Tiger this season. Will Barrett '14 had 28 points against Dartmouth last season.

• Cook's seven steals were the most since Marcus Schroeder '10 had seven against Wagner in 2009.

• Stony Brook's 29.4 percent clip from distance was a season low for a Princeton opponent.

• The 13-point margin was Princeton's largest margin of victory this season.

• Clay Wilson's 13 points gave him a double-figure total for the second straight game and the second time this season.

• Pete Miller's 12 points were his most since scoring 14 at Lafayette on Nov. 19.

• Princeton hit 12 3-pointers on the afternoon, giving the team 25 over the last two games and putting the team in double digits for the third time this season.

• Freshman Aaron Young made his collegiate debut, playing four minutes and hitting two free throws.

Princeton and Saint Peter's met just once, 36 years ago, but the series will be rekindled Wednesday night for an 8 p.m. tip at the Yanitelli Center in Jersey City. The Peacocks are 3-6 after a 70-59 win over Boston University Saturday.
