| Saint Peter's started a rally late in the first half and kept it going after the break Wednesday night in a 60-46 win at the Yanitelli Center in Jersey City in what was just the second meeting between the two schools and the first in 36 years.
Saint Peter's (4-6) evened the series 1-1 after Princeton won first meeting in 1978 in Jadwin Gym. Hans Brase led Princeton with 17 points, three from his career high, but Amir Bell was the next-closest Tiger with 10 points. The Tigers (3-7) led by as many as nine points before the break but endured a scoring drought of just more than five minutes as Saint Peter's used an 11-0 run to take its only lead to that point at 25-22 inside of the final two minutes of the first half. Spencer Weisz ended Princeton's drought with a 3-pointer, and that's where it stayed at the half, even at 25-25. Saint Peter's started the game 3 of 12 from the field, missing six straight shots over a span of five-plus minutes as Princeton built a 14-6 lead by the midway point of the half. The Peacocks warmed up after that, making seven of 11 tries including four of six during the 11-0 run. Princeton was 0 of 5 from the field with two turnovers during the stretch that turned a 22-14 Tiger advantage into a 25-22 Saint Peter's lead. The second half belonged to Saint Peter's from the start, with the Peacocks scoring the first five points of the period as part of a 13-4 run to open its first double-digit lead at 39-29. Once Saint Peter's grew a lead that size, Princeton never clawed closer than seven points before the Peacocks led by as many as 18 points in the final two minutes. Saint Peter's outshot Princeton 41.2 percent to 25 percent in the second half while the Peacocks made five of six threes they tried after the break following a 2-of-11 first half from distance. Saint Peter's guard Desi Washington, returning from a wrist injury for his first game since the season opener, led the Peacocks with 18 points as one of three Saint Peter's players in double figures. Foul trouble was also an issue for the Tigers, who sent Saint Peter's to the line 28 times while getting just eight free throws of their own. Princeton ran out of fouls with 9:57 to play while the Peacocks had just three at the time. |

A bucket by Marvin Dominique was the only bucket of a 5-0 run to start the second half for Saint Peter's, but that basket with less than two minutes gone in the second half showed Princeton that the Peacocks didn't leave their momentum in the locker room. After Princeton took a 22-14 lead, Saint Peters went on a 16-3 run bridging halftime that gave them the lead for good, and Dominique's basket was the last field goal of that run. |
