March 05, 2014 | Baseball
After leading the offense in his debut weekend, Princeton baseball first baseman Nick Hernandez was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week.
Hernandez is coming off a 5-for-11 three-game slate at UC Santa Barbara from Feb. 28-Mar. 2. The Tiger freshman sports a .455 batting average, ranking fourth in the Ivy League, and added two runs, two RBI, a double and a walk over the series. He started all three games, bookending it at first base and served as Princeton's designated hitter in game two.
Coming off a 2-for-3 outing with a run in his collegiate debut, Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI and a walk on Mar. 2. He led the second inning with his first career double, setting up a five-run frame. Hernandez closed out the weekend with Princeton's first hit of the game in the series finale at UCSB.
Hernandez and the Tigers (0-3) will travel to the New York Mets' spring training facility in Port St. Lucie, Fla. to square off with Michigan in a four-game series from Mar. 7-9.
