April 25, 2014 | Women's Water Polo
Princeton had a six-goal lead at halftime didn't look back in a 12-6 win over Harvard to open the CWPA Championship Friday at Bucknell.
With the win, second-seeded Princeton set a program record for victories with its 30th, surpassing the 2012 team's total of 29. That team was the first to advance to the NCAA Championship, something Princeton will do for a third straight year if it can get two more victories this weekend.
The chance to get the next win will come Saturday at 6 p.m. against Hartwick, which was a 12-7 winner over Bucknell in Friday's final game. Live stats will be available here. Top-seeded Indiana or fourth-seeded Michigan will await Sunday, either in the championship final or in a consolation match.
Princeton scored the first three goals against the Crimson and had an 8-2 lead at the half before scoring the first goal of the third quarter to take a seven-goal lead, its largest of the day. Kelly Gross led Princeton with five goals on the day.
With the win, the Tigers improved to 4-0 on the season against Harvard, and the team will try to stay unbeaten on the campaign against its opponent tomorrow. The Tigers defeated Hartwick 8-7 in their only meeting this season on March 8 at the Harvard Invitational.
