Dombrowski Qualifies for U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship
June 24, 2014 | Men's Golf
Princeton rising sophomore Alex Dombrowski will be able to add a USGA event to his golf resume this summer after the Michigan native qualified for the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship in an event held June 23 in his home state.
Dombrowski was one of four players to earn qualification from the site after shooting 4-under 138 over the two-round event. The tournament, at Oak Pointe Country Club in Brighton, Michigan, was open to up to 84 players to compete for the four spots and is one of 71 qualification tournaments around the country for the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship.
Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, Kansas is the site of the national Publinks Championship, which will run from July 14-19. The field of 156 will be pared down to 64 after two rounds of stroke play before the remaining 64 players enter a match-play bracket to determine the event champion.
Dombrowski played in every tournament in his first year at Princeton, twice leading or co-leading the team. His best collegiate round as a rookie was a 67 to cap the Doc Gimmler Invitational at Bethpage Red on Long Island last fall.
