July 31, 2014 | Men's Golf
Princeton alumnus John Sawin '07 has had an eventful summer of golf, continuing the success with a Pennsylvania Amateur title on July 30 at Oakmont Country Club.
Sawin finished three shots clear of the field, fueled by a 1-under 70 on the tournament's final day to complement rounds of 72 on each of the first two days of the event. Results are available here.
The title comes on one of America's most stories courses, with Oakmont, located outside Pittsburgh, having hosted eight U.S. Opens, five U.S. Amateurs, three PGA Championships, and two U.S. Women's Opens. The course will host the U.S. Open again in 2016.
The summer is far from over for Sawin, who has qualified to play in the U.S. Amateur at the Atlanta Athletic Club from August 11-17 and the U.S. Mid-Amateur at Saucon Valley in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, from Sept. 6-11.
Elsewhere in the Northeast, two former Tiger teammates, Greg Jarmas '14 and Evan Harmeling '12, competing in the Maine Open at Augusta Country Club on July 29. In the 152-player field, Jarmas tied for 32nd at even par and Harmeling tied for 78th at 3 over par.
A week before Sawin competes in the U.S. Amateur, another member of the Princeton golf family, rising sophomore Jordan Lippetz, will play in the U.S. Women's Amateur beginning August 4 in Glen Cove, New York.
