PAN-PACIFIC CHAMPIONSHIPS LIVE RESULTS
Though he has yet to swim in the Orange and Black, incoming freshman Corey Okubo has already given Princeton Swimming fans an exciting summer. The 2014 Speedo Junior National Champion in the 200 fly, Okubo will begin competition at the Junior Pan-Pacific Championships Wednesday.
Okubo also competed at the USA Senior National Championships, held Aug. 6-10 in Irvine, Calif. During that event, he placed 10th in the 400 IM and 12th in the 200 fly, and he reached the C final in the 200 back — he missed the B final by only .03 of a second.
Okubo will compete in four events at the Junior Pan-Pacific Championships, which will be held in Maui, Hawaii, until Aug. 31. He is the third seed in three different events: the 200 fly, the 200 back, and the 400 IM. He is also the sixth seed in the 200 IM.
The month began with his victory at Junior Nationals, where he won the 200 fly (LC) in 1:58.30. He added another Top-5 finish in the 200 back, where he placed fifth in 2:01.91.
Okubo was one of three incoming Princeton recruits ranked in the Top 20 nationally by collegeswimming.com. Ranked third among that group, he highlights a Princeton Class of 2018 ranked sixth nationally by SwimSwam.com and 11th by collegeswimming.com.
