Griggs Scores Game Winner in Final Minute

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. (9/14/14) - Senior Julian Griggs scored the game-winning goal with 28 seconds left to lift the Princeton men's soccer team to a 5-4 win over Seton Hall on Sunday, Sept. 14 at Owen T. Carroll Field.
It was Griggs' second goal of the game, while he added one assist as well. Senior Cameron Porter matched the goal total with two himself and junior Thomas Sanner scored once. Senior Myles McGinley added two assists.
Griggs was in perfect position to put away a pass from McGinley and deliver Princeton (1-1-1) its first win of the season.
Princeton held a 2-1 lead at halftime before the Tigers saw the lead slip away in the first ten minutes of the second half with back-to-back goals from Victor Manosalvas. Porter cleaned up a deflection by junior Nico Hurtado to put Princeton on the board first in the 27th minute. Six minutes later Mateusz Brela evened the game with a header. Sanner gave the Tigers the lead headed into halftime when he picked up a pass from Griggs inside the box and put it past Julian Spindler.
Manosalvas got the second half started with by converting a penalty kick in the 47th minute. Eight minutes later he scored again on a cross from teammate Kai Greene.
Griggs scored his first goal of the season and tied the game at 3-3 with a tally in the 67th minute. McGinley sent a cross into the box where Griggs headed it away.
It was a short-lived lead however as Greene hit a sliding shot off of an Eric Lagg cross at the near post in the 74th minute.
Princeton drew even by converting its own penalty kick in the 78th minute. Porter took the effort from the strip and buried it past Splinder.
Junior Ben Hummel and Spindler each made one save apiece in goal. Princeton had a slight 14-11 edge in shots. The teams took two corner kicks each.
The Tigers host Georgetown in an ESPNU game on Wednesday, September 17 at 7 p.m.
