Dietrick Named Ivy Co-Player of the Week; Tigers Climb to No. 19 in AP Poll
January 12, 2015 | Women's Basketball
PRINCETON, N.J. – For the fifth time this season, Blake Dietrick of the No. 19/24 Princeton University women's basketball team earned a spot on the Ivy League's weekly honor roll, garnering recognition as the conference's Co-Player of the Week.
Helping the Tigers to a pair of wins over Hampton and Penn, Dietrick averaged 18.5 points, 4.5 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game. Princeton has now laid claim to an Ivy POTW award in each of the first eight weeks in which it has played a game and been eligible – a conference record.
Dietrick's Ivy POTW honor is the ninth of her career, tying her for eighth all-time on the league charts. Receiving her fifth POTW laurel of the year, she is tied for the ninth-most in a single season in conference history. Dietrick is the second Tiger to accomplish either feat, joining former teammate Niveen Rasheed.
After posting 12 points, four assists, and three rebounds in the team's final non-conference tilt against Hampton, Dietrick helped Princeton cruise to an 83-54 victory over Penn in the squad's Ivy opener. Knocking down nine of her 16 shot attempts, she was 5-of-6 from long distance. Logging 37 minutes, she also added five assists and four rebounds.
With 7:39 remaining in the first half against the Quakers, Dietrick knocked down a three-pointer, becoming the 22nd player in program history to surpass the 1,000-point plateau. Amassing 188 triples over the course of her illustrious four-year career, she currently ranks fifth on the Tigers' all-time ledger.
Through games played on Jan. 11, Dietrick leads the conference in assists per game (5.6) and is tied for second in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.0). The senior co-captain is also tied for fourth in field goal percentage (49.3) and is fifth in points per game (15.8) and three-point shooting (46.1).
Extending its Ivy record start to 17-0, Princeton climbed to No. 19 in the Associated Press top-25 poll. The Tigers' ranking is the highest in conference history, surpassing its own mark of No. 22 set last week.
In 2011-12, Princeton became the first team in league history to earn a national ranking, claiming the No. 24 spot in the final AP poll. Last Tuesday, the Tigers picked up two other distinctions, becoming the first conference program to be ranked in the USA Today Coaches Poll (No. 24) and the first Ivy team to be ranked in both national polls at the same time.
Check back on Tuesday, Jan. 13 to see where the Orange and Black land in the most recent USA Today Coaches Poll, along with its updated RPI and statistical rankings.
