DIETRICK HALFTIME INTERVIEW (VS. BINGHAMTON - DEC. 13)
PRINCETON, N.J. – A day after being named the Ivy League Co-Player and Suburban Transit/GoPrincetonTigers.com Athlete of the Week, Princeton women's basketball co-captain Blake Dietrick added to her list of accolades, earning praise as the USBWA National Player of the Week.
Named the Most Outstanding Player at Fordham's Holiday Classic on Dec. 29-30, Dietrick was selected the Ivy's Co-POTW, once again putting her in the running for the USBWA honor. The only Tiger to ever be named the Ann Meyers Drysdale Women's National Player of the Week, she also laid claim to the award last season after her performance at the University of Virginia's Cavalier Classic.
Shooting 51.6 percent (16-31) from the field in a pair of games against Hartford and Fordham, Dietrick averaged 20.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 1.5 steals. Hitting 10 of her 13 shot attempts against the Hawks, including 3-of-5 threes, the senior finished with a season-high 27 points, falling one point shy of matching a personal best.
In the championship game against the host Rams the following afternoon, Dietrick filled up the stat sheet, turning in a 14-point, seven-assist, six-rebound effort. Picking up her fourth Ivy POTW of the season, she upped her career total to eight, tying for eighth-place on the conference's all-time list. With Dietrick's most recent win, the Tigers have now received an Ivy POTW award in each of the first seven weeks it has played a game and been eligible – a league record.
Against Hampton on Monday evening, Dietrick posted 12 points and four assists. Upping her career total to 993 she needs just seven points to become the 22nd member of the Tigers' 1,000-point club. Currently ranked fifth in school history in three pointers made (183), her career 39.8 shooting percentage behind the arc would sit fourth on the program's charts.
In the midst of her best statistical season, Dietrick is averaging career-highs in points per game (15.2) and field goal percentage (48.7). The Ivy leader in assists per game (5.7), she is tied for third in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.9), is fifth in scoring (15.2), sixth in field goal percentage (48.7), and eighth in three-point shooting (43.4).
