PRINCETON, N.J. (1/8/14) - The Princeton women's hockey team makes it return to Hobey Baker Rink after a 40-day and five-game hiatus from its home ice. The Tigers take on Yale on Friday, Jan. 9 at 3 p.m., and Brown on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 3 p.m.
EYE ON THE TIGERSPrinceton are 1-2 in the New Year after narrowly losing 3-1 to No. 5 Quinnipiac Tuesday night and a split at Rensselaer and Union last weekend. The Tigers are 8-9-1 overall and with a 6-6 record sit in fourth place in the ECAC standings. Princeton began the season 6-1-1 before facing five-straight top-10 teams including a pair versus No. 2 Minnesota and dropping under .500 at 6-7-1 in December. Sophomore defender Kelsey Koelzer leads the team with 18 points with a team-high 13 assists and five goals. Sophomore Molly Contini has tallied a team-best nine goals and adds seven assists for 16 points, while junior Jaimie McDonell has five goals and 11 helpers to match Contini in points. Sophomore Hilary Lloyd chips in 11 points, and freshman Kiersten Falck has nine. Junior Kimberly Newell has been in goal for 16 of 18 games and has a 6-9-1 record with a .915 save percentage and a 2.57 goals against average. Freshman Alysia DaSilva collected the shutout at Union last weekend and has yet to allow a goal in more than 101 minutes of action.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Yale is 7-7-1 overall and 4-4 in the ECAC to sit in seventh place in the league standings. The Bulldogs have won three of its last four games, after splitting last weekend at home versus Dartmouth (W, 5-1) and Harvard (L, 1-3). Junior Jamie Haddad leads the team in scoring with six goals and eight assists for 14 points. Haddad is tied for the team lead in goals with senior Stephanie Mock and sophomore Krista Yip-Chuck. Sophomore Phoebe Staenz, who missed last weekend's game because she was at the Nations Cup with her native Switzerland, leads in assists with 10 and chips in two goals. Junior Janelle Ferrara and senior Aurora Kennedy are also in double digits in points with 11 and 10, respectively. Senior Jaimie Leonoff has played in all but two games in goal and is 6-6-1 with a 2.58 GAA and a .919 save percentage.
PRINCETON/YALE SERIES
Princeton commands the series with Yale, 57-13-2 since the teams first met in 1979. The teams have split the series the last two years with the Bulldogs winning the last game at Hobey Baker Rink, 5-3 last February. The Tigers are 7-3 in the last 10 meetings. Brianna Leahy and Ali Pankowski each have four points in their six games against Brown, while Hilary Lloyd has three point sin two goals and Fiona McKenna has two goals in one game. Kimberly Newell is 2-2 against Yale with 94 saves and 11 goals allowed.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
Brown heads into the weekend with a 4-11 overall record and is 1-7 in the ECAC, its lone win coming against St. Lawrence, 7-4. The Bears are winless in their last five games, against Dartmouth, Harvard, Union, Rensselaer and Providence. Brown's last win was against Providence, 2-1, on Nov. 28. Seniors Kaitlyn Keon and Sarah Robson have collected the most points on the team. Keon has a team-high eight goals and six assists for 14 points, while Robson has assisted on eight goals and scored four for 12 points. Freshman Sam Donovan is a scoring threat with seven goals, while adding two assists. Junior defender Kelly Micholson and senior Janice Yang chip in nine points apiece as well. Sophomore Monica Elvin is 4-6 between the pipes and has an .898 save percentage and a 3.37 GAA Freshman Julianne Landry has played in six games, is 0-5, with an .830 save percentage and 6.01 GAA.
PRINCETON/BROWN SERIES
Princeton owns a 40-29-2 edge in the all-time series with Brown, headed by former Princeton assistant coach Amy Bourbeau. The Tigers are riding an eight-game winning streak in the series, with half of those victories by shutout. Brown's last win was a 4-3 game on Feb. 19, 2010. Brianna Leahy leads the team in points against Brown with four goals and one assist in six games. Molly Contini has four goals in two games and Ali Pankowski and Kelsey Koelzer have three points apiece. Kimberly Newell is 4-0, making 96 saves on 100 shots.
