PRINCETON, N.J. (10/13/15) - Princeton head coach Jim Barlow '91 recorded his 150th career victory on Tuesday night as the Tigers defeated Fairleigh Dickinson 4-1 on Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium.
It was a senior showcase as Brendan McSherry scored twice and Josh Miller and Nico Hurtado each scoring a goal.
Princeton's four goals is the most the team has scored since Oct. 7, 2014 when the team put up five on Rutgers. It was that game that spurred an 8-0-1 by the Tigers through the end of the season and to an Ivy League title.
After a slow start that saw a scoreless first half, McSherry wasted little time putting Princeton on the board less than five minutes into the second half. The Ivy League leading scorer Thomas Sanner pushed the ball to sophomore Nicholas Badalamenti in the far left corner and he crossed the ball into the box where McSherry headed it past goalie Aleksander Djeckic.
Miller, the only field player to play the entirety, scored his third goal of the season in the 58th minute to give Princeton the 2-0 lead. Junior Bryan Windsor earned his first point of the season after got back his own corner kick and rifled one at the keeper who made the save but didn't collect it before Miller got to it and scored the rebound.
FDU cut its deficit to one with Aaron O'Raw's goal in the 73rd minute. Christian Dietrich took a corner kick and O'Raw headed the ball in amidst a mass of players in the 6-yard box.
Less than four minutes later, however, Hurtado regained the two-goal lead with a header off of Daniel Bowkett's rebound.
McSherry tallied his second of the night 2:42 later when he took a restart from 30 yards out and it bent into the goal for the unassisted marker.
Princeton outshot FDU 17-9 in the game, including an 11-4 differential in the second half. FDU took one more corner kick, 6-5.
Senior Ben Hummel and Djeckic each made two saves.
Princeton, now 5-3-2 overall, continues its three-game homestand when it hosts Columbia on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 4 p.m.
