PRINCETON, N.J. (10/14/15) - Princeton looks to move up in the Ivy League standings and make a late-season run as it hosts Columbia in the first league game on Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium of the 2015 season. Game time is at 4 p.m., on Satuday, Oct. 17.
Columbia holds a 32-21-10 edge in the all-time series since it began in 1912. However the Lions haven't won just one game in the last 12 meetings, with Princeton going 7-1-3 in the last 12 seasons. Last year's game was a 1-1 tie in New York, with Joe Saitta '15 scoring the game-tying goal in the 16th minute after Columbia's Andrew Tinari got his team on the board in the 4th minute. Ben Hummel made seven saves in goal, while Kyle Jackson made three saves for Columbia. Columbia had a 14-12 edge in shots, while Princeton had a 5-1 advantage in corners.
Columbia comes to Princeton with a 6-3-1 overall record and is fourth in the league standings with a 1-1 record. The Lions lost a 2-1 game to Brown and then defeated Penn by the same score. Most recently, on Tuesday night, Columbia lost a 3-1 game at Temple. Columbia is average 1.20 goals per game and is holding teams to 0.90 gpg and just 9.2 shots per game. Frederick Elliott and Arthur Bosua are the team's leading scorers with five points apiece. Each has scored twice and add one assist. Andrew Tinari has one goal is the only player with more than one assist with two. Rhys Williams adds a goal and an assist, while five others have two points. Kyle Jackson is the only goalkeeper used by the Lions. He has a 0.87 goals against average and a .775 save percentage with four shutouts to his credit.
Princeton is looking for its first win of the Ivy League season, after starting 0-1-1 with a loss at Darmtouth and a tie at Brown. The Tigers are ranked sixth in the Ivy League. Overall Princeton is 5-3-2 and are unbeaten in its last three games, which includes a 4-1 win over Fairleigh Dickinson at home just last Tuesday night. Hoping to build off the offensive firepower in that game, Princeton is led by the Ivy League Player of the Week Thomas Sanner. Sanner has seven goals and three assists for 17 points. Senior Brendan McSherry, who scored twice on Tuesday night, has 11 points on four goals and three assists. Senior Nico Hurtado has three goals and three assists and senior defender Josh Miller has three goals and one assist. Senior Ben Hummel has every decision in goal and owns a 1.50 GAA and a .682 save percentage.
