Vives, Two Doubles Pairs Advance at USTA/ITA Regional

Diego Vives will represent the Princeton men's tennis team in singles play when the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional at Yale resumes Sunday.
The Tigers entered the day with seven players either having won their first-round matches or getting a first-round bye, but six were tripped up in Saturday's second-round matches. Vives knocked off Photos Photiades of Yale in straight sets and Cornell's Stefan Vinti in three after rebounding from a third-set loss. Sunday, Vives will take on Columbia's Mike Vermeer, who was ranked 110th in the nation by the ITA on the preseason list. Sunday's Round of 16 singles play is set to begin at 1 p.m. and will be the only singles round played on the day.
Princeton still has two of its three doubles pairs going forward, with Vives and Tom Colautti getting past a Stony Brook pair in the Round of 32 and Luke Gamble and Alex Day knocking off a Penn duo. Each will have Round of 16 matches and, with a win, a quarterfinal match Sunday beginning at 9 a.m.
