Midweek Notes: Graduation Rates, All-Time Greats And Princeton Donates
November 11, 2015 | Football
It's Alumni Weekend coming up, and there is plenty going on surrounding the 138th meeting between Princeton and Yale.
Princeton picked up its first win prior to the game, though. The NCAA recently released its Graduation Success Rate (GSR) for Division I student-athletes who began college in 2008, and Princeton led all FCS football programs with a graduation rate of 98%.
Some of Princeton's all-time best football graduates will be honored at halftime of the Yale game, as the Princeton Football Association has welcomed back all former recipients of the John P. Poe - Richard W. Kazmaier, Jr. Football Trophy. The inscription on the trophy, the top honor given to a Princeton football player, is below:
Awarded to that member of the Princeton football team of good moral character, who, during the season in addition to proving himself a player of ability, has best exemplified the following traits and characteristics: Loyalty and devotion to Princeton's football interests, courage, manliness, self-control and modesty, perseverance and determination under discouraging conditions, observance of the rules of the game and fairness towards opponents."It's going to be incredible to see that level of talent on the field at halftime," head coach Bob Surace said. "Princeton's all-time leading passer and all-time leading rusher … a College Football Hall of Famer in Cosmo Iacavazzi … two linebackers who won the Bushnell Cup in Dave Patterson and Mike Zeuli. This is going to be a great moment to salute the men who helped build the foundation of this program."
The Princeton Chapter of Uplifting Athletes will use Saturday to raise money in their battle against aplastic anemia, an illness that impacted 2008 Poe-Kazmaier recipient Jordan Culbreath '11. There will be more information available at Princeton Stadium, but you can also donate directly by going here.
