Women's Squash Earns No. 4 Preseason Ranking, Eyes Nov. 22 Opener At GW
November 05, 2015 | Women's Squash
The Princeton women's squash team, which returns two of the nation's Top 5 players from last season, has been picked fourth in the preseason national rankings by the College Squash Association.
The Tigers, which upset Penn at the Howe Cup and nearly stunned national champion Harvard, received 658 points in the national poll, only eight fewer than third-choice Penn in the first team rankings. The 2-3-4 positions were all fairly close, as Trinity received 686 points in the vote.
Harvard led the rankings with 721 points, while Yale rounded out the Top 5 with 604 points.
The Tigers return three All-Americas this season in sophomore Olivia Fiechter, the reigning Ivy League Rookie of the Year, junior Maria Elena Ubina, the 2014 Ivy League Rookie of the Year, and senior Rachel Leizman, whose critical comeback win helped the Tigers win the 2013 Ivy League title. They also bring in a talented trio of recruits, each of whom has been highly ranked at their respective age levels.
That group could be called on early, as the Tigers will replace four-year starters Nicole Bunyan, Hallie Dewey and Alex Lunt, each of whom graduated in 2015.
The women's squash season opens Nov. 22 at George Washington, while the home openers will be Dec. 5 against both Williams (12:30 pm) and St. Lawrence (4:30 pm).
