November 06, 2015 | Men's Water Polo
PRINCETON, N.J. – Vojislav Mitrovic and Matt Payne each earned recognition on the CWPA Southern Division honor roll after helping the 11th-ranked Princeton University men's water polo team to a pair of victories over Navy and Bucknell.
Picking up his third CWPA Southern Defensive Player of the Week award of the season, Mitrovic stopped 25 shots in a pair of wins last weekend. Turning away 11 shots in a 15-13 victory over Navy, Mitrovic made 14 saves in the Tigers' 9-7 triumph over Bucknell. The award is the sixth defensive player of the week honor of his career.
Payne was named the Southern Division Rookie of the Week after tallying six goals, three assists, and three drawn ejections against Navy and Bucknell. Against the Midshipmen, Payne found the back of the opposing cage three times on five shots while also collecting three assists and drawing three ejections. Against Bucknell, Payne once again turned in a hat-trick while nabbing a steal and winning his lone sprint.
Mitrovic, Payne and the Tigers open CWPA Southern Division championship play later this afternoon (Nov. 6) against Gannon. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
