BOX SCORE
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Michelle Miller scored a team-high 21 points, but the Princeton University women's basketball team suffered its second setback of the season with a 90-70 loss to No. 10/12 Ohio State University at Value City Arena.
Dropping to 9-2 on the season, the Tigers return to action on Sunday, Dec. 20 at Dayton. Improving to 7-3 on the year, the Buckeyes snapped Princeton's seven-game win streak and moved to 2-0 in the all-time series.
With the Orange and Black down five early, Miller drove the lane for two before knocking down an open three-pointer on the right wing. Spotting up from the corner coming out of a timeout, Miller buried another triple at 4:50 to give the Tigers their first lead at 10-9.
Ohio State answered with a 15-2 run over the final 4:37 of the first quarter. Kelsey Mitchell got the stretch started with a layup. Later hitting a three-pointer that made it 20-12, Mitchell closed out the frame with a step-back jumper from the right baseline to push the Buckeyes' margin to 12.
Miller opened the second quarter with a triple from the left side, but eight unanswered Ohio State points grew the lead to 32-15. Wheatley connected on a layup inside the seven-minute mark before Tia Weledji drained a three to trim the deficit to 12. Drawing a foul the next time down the floor, Wheatley went 2-for-2 from the charity stripe to make it 34-24.
Coming right back, Ohio State answered with a 13-2 run to push the lead back up to 21. Miller momentarily stemmed the tide, putting back a Vanessa Smith misfire at 1:34, but five quick Ameryst Alston points gave the Buckeyes their largest lead of the half at 52-28.
Keeping the pressure on following the intermission, Ohio State led by as much as 29 on a Alston jumper at the 8:53 mark of the fourth quarter. Shooting 57.6 percent (34-59) for the game, the Buckeyes hit 40.0 percent (8-20) of their three-point attempts.
Knocking down seven of her 14 shots, Miller connected on 5-of-8 threes. Wheatley finished with 14 points and six rebounds, while Annie Tarakchian had 14 points and nine boards.
