PRINCETON, N.J. – Adding to her growing list of accolades, senior Blake Dietrick of the No. 16 Princeton University women's basketball team has been named to the Naismith Midseason Top-30 list.
Already on the Nancy Lieberman Award watch list as one of the top point guards in the country, Dietrick becomes the first Ivy League player since former Tiger Niveen Rasheed to garner consideration for the Naismith Trophy.
Awarded annually to the men's and women's college basketball players of the year, the Naismith Trophy presented by AT&T bases its criteria on player performance throughout the season.
Each year, the Atlanta Tipoff Club publishes a watch list comprised of the top 50 players to watch. The organization then releases a list of 30 mid-season candidates before trimming the field to 10 semifinalists in early March. Four finalists will then be selected on Mar. 20 before the winner is announced on Apr. 6.
Helping Princeton to an Ivy League record 21-0 start, Dietrick has been named the conference's Player of the Week on five occasions this season. A three-time CollegeSportsMadness.com Ivy POTW, she earned the second USBWA National Player of the Week honor of her career on Jan. 6, and is the only player in program history to ever be recognized as the organization's national POTW.
Averaging career-highs in points (15.0), assists (5.3) and rebounds (4.6) per game, Dietrick is shooting a career-best 49.2 percent (121-246) from the field and 46.6 percent (48-103) from three.
Through the team's first 21 games, Dietrick has scored in double digits in all but four of her appearances, netting at least 20 points in four outings. Scoring a season-high 27 points on 10-of-13 shooting against Hartford (12/29), she had 22 points, nine rebounds and eight assists in a win over Michigan on Dec. 9. Posting her only double-double of the year in a road victory over Delaware, she scored 12 points while dishing out a career-high 10 helpers.
Currently leading the Ivy League in assists per game (5.3), Dietrick is third in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.8), fourth in three-point shooting, and fifth in scoring (15.0) and field goal percentage (49.2). Nationally, her 46.6 three-point percentage sits sixth.
Against Penn on Jan. 10, Dietrick became just the 22nd player in school history to surpass the 1,000-point plateau. She currently ranks third on the program charts in career three-pointers made (195), fourth in three-point shooting percentage (40.6) and 20th in scoring (1,066).
