No. 14 Women's Water Polo Set to Return to Action at Bison Invitational

The Tigers will open Invitational play against Wagner on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 3 p.m. before taking on Long Beach State in the nightcap (8 p.m.). Princeton returns to the pool on Sunday, Feb. 15 against St. Francis (1 p.m.).
THE WEEK THAT WAS
• The Tigers opened their 2015 season by posting a 3-1 record at the Princeton Invitational.
• Scrimmaging against the CAMO Water Polo Club last Friday evening, Princeton notched a 16-4 victory over Villanova in its season opener on Saturday before defeating Harvard in the nightcap, 12-6.
• In a rematch of last year's CWPA championship game, the Tigers fell to Indiana in overtime, 9-8.
• Closing out tourney play, Princeton dispatched of Iona, 18-6.
• As a team, Princeton went 9-9 on sprints, while posting a 45.3 shooting percentage (43-95).
• More than doubling the opposition's scoring output through four games (54-25), the Tigers held a 11-5 edge in first period goals, while maintaining a +8 goal differential in the second (13-5), third (14-6) and fourth (15-7) quarters.
SHARING THE WEALTH
• Showing off their depth, all but one of the Tigers saw action in all four games this past weekend.
• All 15 field players recorded a point in the team's first four contests, with all but two netting a goal.
• 12 different players tallied multiple scores, with four different Tigers collecting at least five goals.
• 12 different Princeton players had more than one assist, with four student-athletes dishing out at least five helpers.
LEADING THE WAY
• Ashley Hatcher turned in a solid opening weekend, registering 10 goals on just 14 shots (.714). She was the only Tiger to amass double digit scores.
• Opening Invitational play with three goals and an assist against Villanova, Hatcher posted another hat-trick in a triumph over Harvard.
• Finding the back of the opposing net twice in the overtime loss to Indiana, she had two goals and an assist versus Iona.
• Hatcher also drew four ejections and collected three steals.
MAKING AN IMPRESSION
• All five Princeton freshmen saw action at the Princeton Invitational.
• Helena van Brande picked up wins in both of her starts, sporting a .706 save percentage.
• Going 7-4 on sprints, Haley Wan started three of her four appearances, tallying four goals and a team-high seven assists.
• Sydney Cheong had four goals, four drawn ejections and two helpers in her first four college contests, while Chelsea Johnson had five goals and seven drawn ejections.
• Emily Smith also logged minutes in all four games, handing out three assists, while drawing two ejections and scoring a pair of goals.
GETTING DEFENSIVE
• Both of Princeton's goalkeepers saw action at the Princeton Invitational, allowing just 25 goals in four games while combining for a .638 save percentage.
• In starts against Villanova and Iona, Helena van Brande stopped 24 of the 34 shots she faced for a .706 save percentage.
• Van Brande had 11 stops in her collegiate debut against Villanova before making 13 saves versus Iona.
• Against Harvard and Indiana, two-time All-America selection Ashleigh Johnson posted a .571 save percentage, turning away 20-of-35 shots faced.
• Posting 12 saves against Harvard, she had eight stops while playing all 38 minutes of an overtime loss to Indiana.
• The setback was just the ninth for Johnson, who boasts a 57-9 career mark.
SCOUTING WAGNER
• Princeton is 12-0 all-time against Wagner with a 7-0 mark in neutral site games.
• Opening its season at the Indiana Invitational, the Seahawks defeated Marist 9-5 before falling to the host Hoosiers, 13-5.
• Wagner went 2-0 at the Princeton Invitational with wins over Harvard (12-9) and Brown (16-8).
SCOUTING LONG BEACH STATE
• The Tigers are in search of their first victory over Long Beach State, having gone winless in the first six meetings with a 0-4 record in neutral site contests.
• Long Beach State carries a 3-5 record into the weekend, having won three of their last four following a 0-4 start.
• Virginia Smith leads the team in goals with 11, while Justine Morgan and Christina Kotsia have seven scores apiece.
• Mariette Harris has logged the majority of the minutes in net, posting a 3.25 goals-against-average and .413 save percentage.
SCOUTING ST. FRANCIS
• Princeton is 2-0 all-time against St. Francis.
• The Terriers carry a 0-2 record into the weekend having dropped a pair of matches to Iona (L, 17-5) and Harvard (L, 15-6).
