PRINCETON, N.J. – Annie Tarakchian has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week after helping the 14th-ranked Princeton University women's basketball team to a pair of wins over Dartmouth and Harvard.
Averaging a double-double with 14.0 points and 14.0 rebounds in her two outings, Tarakchian connected on 66.7 percent (12-18) of her shot attempts and 57.1 percent (4-7) of her three-pointers. Playing 29.0 minutes, the junior also averaged 5.5 assists and 1.5 steals.
Flirting with a triple-double against Dartmouth, Tarakchian tallied 11 points, 14 rebounds and a career-high eight assists. Playing 26 minutes, she hit all three of her triples, while going 4-of-6 from the floor.
The following evening, Tarakchian posted her fourth consecutive double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Knocking down a personal-best 8-of-12 from the field, she also had three assists and two steals in 32 minutes. Tarakchian currently leads the team with nine double-doubles on the season.
With Tarakchian's latest Ivy POTW accolade, a Princeton player has laid claim to the conference's Player of the Week award in each of the first 12 weeks it has played a game and been eligible, setting a new Ivy record. Tarakchian has four Ivy POTW awards on the season, second only to teammate Blake Dietrick, who has earned a spot on the conference's weekly honor roll on five occasions in 2014-15.
Currently leading the conference in three-point shooting (50.6), Tarakchian is second in rebounding (9.3) and ranked fourth in field goal percentage (48.6). With her impressive showing last weekend, Tarakchian was also named the CollegeSportsMadness.com Ivy League Player of the Week. The junior's win marked the fifth time a Princeton player has been honored by the site this season (Michelle Miller – Nov. 16, Blake Dietrick – Dec. 7, Dec. 14, Feb. 2).
Extending its Ivy League record start to 25-0 (9-0 Ivy), the Tigers climbed two spots to No. 14 in the latest Associated Press Top-25 poll. Princeton's No. 14 ranking is the highest in conference history. Only Penn's 1970-71 men's team had more consecutive victories to open a season, going 28-0.
Slotted No. 18 in the latest NCAA women's basketball RPI, the Tigers lead the nation in three-point shooting percentage (41.4). Second in the country in field goal percentage (49.7) and scoring margin (+26.1), Princeton is 14th in scoring offense (77.6), 16th in assists (17.1) and 20th in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.18).
Also boasting one of the nation's stingiest defenses, the Tigers are third in opponent field goal percentage (33.6), fifth in opponent three-point percentage (25.8), and sixth in points allowed (51.5) and rebounding margin (+11.7).
Princeton returns to action this weekend against Yale (Feb. 27) and Brown (Feb. 28). Both games will be broadcast on ESPN3 and the Ivy League Digital Network.
