Yale Pulls Away from Men's Hoops, 81-60

An eight-point second-half lead got away from Princeton, as Yale roared back over the game's final 13 minutes to beat Princeton 81-60 Friday night in New Haven.

Princeton was up 47-39 with 13:41 left before Yale answered with a 10-0 run to retake the lead. Though Princeton led 53-51 with 10:11 to play, Yale responded with an 11-1 run and never looked back, with its 21-point final margin as its largest lead.

Yale shot 66.7 percent in the second half, up from 44.8 percent before the break, allowing the Bulldogs to outshine Princeton's solid 51.2 percent clip from the floor for the game. Yale added to that by outrebounding Princeton 29-23 and getting three fewer turnovers, 15-12.

The win allows Yale to pull even with Harvard atop the Ivy League after the Crimson lost at Cornell Friday night.

A 3-pointer by Jack Montague with 8:56 to play came with a Princeton foul, and Montague converted the four-point play to break a 53-all tie and make it 57-53 Yale. That basket came early in the 11-1 run that proved decisive in Friday night's game.

• Princeton's skid at Lee Amphitheater reached four games. The Tigers last won here in 2011, less than a month before Princeton came back to New Haven to beat Harvard in the Ivy League playoff.

• Clay Wilson reached double figures in three straight games for the first time this season, tonight with 11 points.

• Yale shot 53 percent from the floor tonight after shooting 58 percent in the game at Jadwin two weekends ago.

Princeton will continue on up the coast of the Long Island Sound and head north to Providence for a Saturday 6 p.m. tip. The Bears rolled past Penn Friday night 75-69.
