PRINCETON, N.J. – Junior Michelle Miller of the No. 18/20 Princeton University women's basketball team has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)/Capital One Academic All-District first team.
In order to be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30, and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing. First team honorees are automatically considered for the Academic All-America squads, which will be selected later this month.
One of six District 2 honorees, Miller is one of two Ivy League student-athletes to be recognized, and one of just 47 Division I women's basketball players nationwide to be selected. The academic all-district squads are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
Starting all 19 of the team's games this season, Miller ranks second on the team and 12th in the Ivy League in scoring with 12.4 points per game. Currently ranked second in the country in three-point shooting percentage (48.8), she has knocked down 39 of her 80 attempts from long distance. Shooting 48.1 percent (88-183) from the floor, she has made 87.0 percent (20-23) of her free throws, while also averaging 4.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists per outing.
Scoring in double digits in 12 of her appearances this year, she netted a season-high 25 points on 10-of-14 shooting with five rebounds and three assists against Michigan on Dec. 9. Knocking down 131 of her 315 three-point attempts, her career 41.6 shooting percentage from behind the arc currently ranks second on the Tigers' program charts.
Equally successful off the court, Miller is majoring in chemistry while also pursuing a certificate in neuroscience. Awarded Princeton's Shapiro Prize of Academic Excellence, the Pasadena, Calif. native serves as a mentor for the Princeton Pre-Med Society, as well as JockDocs, a pre-med organization for student-athletes.
