Columbia Tops Tigers In Regular Season Finale; D'Alessandro Sets Pool Mark
February 07, 2015 | Men's Swimming and Diving
Despite a Uris Pool record from Princeton junior Teo D'Alessandro, the Princeton men's swimming and diving dropped its regular season finale 168-132 Friday night at Columbia.
D'Alessandro set the pool record in the first individual swim event of the evening, the 400 IM. He won in 3:54.80, while teammate Sam Smiddy, the reigning Ivy champion in the event, took second in 3:56.86.
Another former Ivy League champion, Connor Maher, claimed a victory in the 100 back in 50.57. Maher, competing in his final regular season competition, topped Columbia's Michael Fox-Moles by .01 of a second to claim the win.
Fellow senior Michael Manhard also earned a victory in a competitive 3-meter diving competition. He scored 315.75 points to earn the win, while teammate Nathan Makarewicz scored 288.61 points to place third in the event.
It wasn't just the upperclassmen who earned wins for Princeton. Freshman Liam Karas topped teammate Marco Bove to win the 200 IM in 1:51.76. Bove finished second in 1:52.84; other runners-up for Princeton included Byron Sanborn (200 breast, 2:04.67), Sandy Bole (100 free, 45.21), Alex Lewis (50 free, 21.00), Corey Okubo (200 fly, 1:48.33), and Julian Mackrel (200 free, 1:41.15).
Princeton will now be off for three weeks before returning to DeNunzio Pool to host the Ivy League Championships during the final weekend of February.
