No. 9 Women's Water Polo Opens Season With Wins Over Villanova, Harvard

PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 9 Princeton University women's water polo team opened its 2015 campaign with a pair of wins over Villanova and Harvard.
Dropping Villanova 16-4 in the morning session of the Princeton Invitational, the Tigers secured a 12-6 win over Harvard in the nightcap. The Orange and Black return to action tomorrow against Indiana and Iona.

The ninth-ranked Princeton University women's water polo team opened its 2015 season with a decisive 16-4 victory over Villanova University at DeNunzio Pool.
Holding onto a 6-3 lead at the intermission, the Tigers outscored the Wildcats by a 10-1 margin in the second half. Eleven different players recorded a goal for Princeton, led by Ashley Hatcher and Morgan Hallock with three scores apiece.
Kimi Klein twice found the opposing net on just three shots, while Sydney Saxe dished out a team-high three assists. In their collegiate debuts, Haley Wan and Emily Smith each had a goal and two assists, while CeCe Coffey also had a pair of helpers.
Kelly Gross nabbed a team-high three steals with Smith and Taylor Dunstan also picking up a pair. Hallock drew a squad-best five ejections.
Earning her first collegiate start, Helena van Brande stopped 11 of the 15 shots she faced. Making five saves in the first half, she had six stops in the game's final 16 minutes, including five in the fourth quarter.

The Princeton University women's water polo team improved to 2-0 on the season thanks to a 12-6 victory over rival Harvard on Saturday evening.
Up 5-3 at the half, the Tigers held a 3-0 scoring edge in the second period before accounting for four of the seven goals in the final frame.
Chelsea Johnson and Ashley Hatcher paced the Princeton attack with three goals apiece, while Haley Wan dished out a team-high four assists. Taylor Dunstan had a goal, three helpers and two steals, while Jessie Holechek had a pair of scores.
Sydney Cheong, Camille Hooks and Emily Smith each had a goal, with the trio also combining for a steal and two drawn ejections. Morgan Hallock drew a team-high four ejections, while Pippa Temple finished with two assists and two steals.
Making her season-debut, two-time All-America selection Ashleigh Johnson finished with 12 saves. Making three stops in the first quarter, she had six saves in the second period. Tacking on three more stops following the intermission, she also nabbed three steals.
